Packing is one of the most time-consuming (and annoying) parts of preparing for your move. Why not let the professionals handle it?

Storage Solutions
Long distance moving can be tough, not just because of the distance, but because of all the questions involved. One of the most common questions is “Do I really have enough space?”
Unless you’ve somehow figured out how to be in two places at once, it’s a challenge to figure out where everything goes in your new place – and it’s a challenge to figure out whether it’ll fit. If you need some extra square footage, we’ve got the storage space.
Our secure storage units come in all shapes and sizes. Book one (or a few) for your move for some much-needed flexibility.
How Much Does it Cost to Hire Long Distance Movers in Las Vegas?
Long distance movers in Las Vegas will cost you anywhere from $900 to #12,000, sometimes a little more, and sometimes a little less. It all comes down to a few key factors, the most important of which are your distance and move size.
Distance is pretty straightforward. It’s the miles you have to travel between your point of origin and your final destination. Long distance movers will map out the whole route, and base a big part of price on how far they have to haul everything.
As for the move size, that takes a bit more math. Most moving companies will assign a weight or volume value to all your stuff, either in pounds or cubic feet. More stuff to move means more money to pay.
Moving a studio apartment 100 miles is going to be a lot cheaper than moving a five-bedroom home across the entire country. While every move is different, we put together a helpful chart so you can get a rough estimate of what you’re in for:
Distance | 1 Bedroom | 2 – 3 Bedroom | 4 – 5 Bedroom |
100 miles | $900 – $1500 | $1550 – $2000 | $2100 – $2500 |
250 miles | $1600 – $2000 | $2100 – $2500 | $2600 – $3000 |
1000 miles+ | $2800 – $3000 | $3100 – $3500 | $3600 – $4000 |
2500 miles+ | $3200 – $5500 | $5600 – $9000 | $12000+ |

What Factors Impact the Cost of a Long-Distance Move?
Aside from the weight and the distance, there are a few other important factors that’ll affect your final price. Take a look at some of these so you aren’t surprised when the quote comes through:
- Access Fees: How difficult is it to get from your front door to the street? Are there any long hallways, extra staircases, or elevators? All of these challenges can net you extra fees, so make sure you and your movers are on the right page ahead of time.
- Shuttle Fees: Some cities don’t like huge semi trucks parking on their streets. Unfortunately, in these cases, your movers will have to park the main truck out in the sticks, and use a box truck to ferry your stuff to wherever it’s parked.
- Additional Services: Packing, furniture disassembly, and all those other goodies usually don’t come for free. If you really want to save some money, you can ask for a quote without packing – but be advised, it may affect your insurance options.
- Insurance: Under federal law, long distance movers have to offer insurance. But it’s only good for $0.60 per pound. If you want full-value coverage, you’ll have to pay extra – and most movers won’t offer it unless you pay for their packing services, too.
- Gratuity: This one isn’t included in your quote, but you should prepare your budget accordingly. In the moving industry, tips are accepted and expected. Think 15% – 20% of the total cost of your move, to be divvied up between your whole team.
What is the cheapest option for moving long distances?
The cheapest option for moving long distance is always to DIY, but we wouldn’t always recommend it. (We’re not saying this as a moving company, either.)
Unfortunately, after you pay for your truck rental, your gas, your food, and your lodging, those savings from your DIY move can dry up pretty quickly. But the real kicker is whether you have to take time off from work. All those missed paychecks can really stack up.
Sometimes, it’s just more efficient to pay for professional moving. It may cost a little more, but you’ll save big on stress and sanity.
What is considered long distance for a moving company?
In the moving industry, anything over 100 miles or across state lines counts as a long distance move. Even if you’re just a mile away from the California border, you’ll have to book with a long distance moving company if you’re crossing that line.
Long distance movers need more licensing and certifications in order to operate. Look for a Department of Transportation (DOT) number and a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) number to make sure they’re legit.
How can I save money on a long distance move?
We always recommend downsizing as much as possible before you shop around for quotes. This way, you won’t be billed for a bunch of unwanted, unused belongings, and there’ll be less to haul on moving day.
Aside from downsizing, see if you can schedule your move far away from the summer months. Those are always the busiest (and most expensive) months for moving.
What sets Out of State Moving Companies apart from other long-distance movers?
We don’t like to brag, but we’ve helped over 100,000 customers with their moves, and we’ve got over 10 years of experience. Sure, other companies have helped a lot of customers and have been around for a while, but we do things different.
At Out of State Moving Companies, we focus on cutting all the stress out of your move. We’ll plan, prep, pack, and p…transport all your stuff with care, and we’ll keep you up to speed about the whole process. Moving doesn’t have to be stressful, and with Out of State Moving Companies, it won’t be.
How far in advance should I hire movers in Las Vegas?
If you’re planning a long distance move in Las Vegas, we recommend booking your movers at least 2 or 3 months in advance. It’s a pretty huge window, but it gives you plenty of time to pack up and/or procrastinate.
Even though it’s a couple of months, you’ll be surprised at how fast the time flies when you’re transferring utilities, transferring your address, and tell all your friends and family where you’re going to be next (assuming you want them to know).
How long does a long distance move take?
Long distance moving takes anywhere between 1 and 21 days. Like the price of a long distance move, the duration really depends on how much stuff you’re transporting, and how far it all has to travel. But unlike the price, a smaller amount of stuff doesn’t always mean a smaller amount of days.
Movers don’t like to send half-empty trucks all over the place, so in the name of efficiency, they’ll bundle multiple moves together in the same trailer. They’ll keep everything separate and secure, but they’ll have to spend some extra time for pickups and dropoffs along the way.
