Our Long-Distance Moving Services in San Diego
Residential Moving
Houses, apartments, double-wides, and your buddy’s closet – whatever you’re able to afford to live in in San Diego, we’ll get it moved for you.
Everything in your home tells a story, and when you pack it all up, it’s like packing up your whole life. Our moving teams are committed to giving you the freshest of fresh starts, and it all starts with careful moving and extra TLC.
Whether it’s parking permits, extra flights of stairs, or just navigating those narrow hallways, our residential moving pros can handle all the hard stuff.
Commercial Moving
We’re business owners, too. We know that downtime is wasted time, and we’re committed to keeping your gears turning.
Got a warehouse full of inventory? No problem. An office full of electronic gizmos and appliances? No worries. Cheryl in HR has 32901482914 knicknacks on her desk? We’ll take care of it.
Don’t disrupt your operation with a relocation. Out of State Moving Companies will take care of the heavy lifting and delivery so you can focus on your day-to-day deliverables.
Packing Services
Packing is a pain, and no matter how many boxes you have, you never have enough – or the right size.
Instead of tackling the most time-consuming (and frustrating) part of your move, why don’t you let the pros handle it? At Out of State Moving Companies, our packing pros have everything they need to box, wrap, seal, and protect your belongings. We even do custom crating for those hard-to-box items.
Long distance moving in San Diego is stressful enough already. Book with us, and you won’t have to touch a single packing peanut.
Storage Solutions
Whether you have too little space or too much stuff, we’ve got the square footage you need. Our safe and secure storage gives you a little extra breathing room.
One of the challenges of a long distance move is figuring out where all your stuff is going to live – without actually seeing your new space. Getting everything hauled to point B is one thing, but figuring out where to put that antique dresser? That’ll take some time.
If you need some flexibility, choose Out of State Moving Companies. With storage units of all shapes and sizes, we’ve got extra space for that dresser (and a whole lot more).
How Much Does it Cost to Hire Long Distance Movers in San Diego?
A long distance move in San Diego can cost you anywhere from $1,570 to $9,000, but we’ve seen a few moves that are a little higher or a little lower.
The price of your long distance move depends on a number of different factors, from packing fees to the time of the year. Out of all of these fees and extras, the biggest factors by far are distance and volume of your move.
Long distance moving companies in San Diego (and everywhere else) will map out your route in miles, and assign either a cubic-foot or weight-in-pounds volume for you stuff. A longer move is a more expensive move. And if you’re moving more stuff, you’ll have to pay more money.
We like to keep things transparent, even when you haven’t requested a personalized quote yet. Take a look at this chart for rough idea of how much you’ll pay on moving day:
Distance | 1 Bedroom | 2 – 3 Bedroom | 4 – 5 Bedroom |
100 miles | $1200 – $1500 | $1550 – $2000 | $2100 – $2500 |
250 miles | $1600 – $2000 | $2100 – $2500 | $2600 – $3000 |
1000 miles+ | $2800 – $3000 | $3100 – $3500 | $3600 – $4000 |
2500 miles+ | $3100 – $3500 | $4500 – $6500 | $9000+ |
San Diego Long Distance Moving FAQs
What Factors Impact the Cost of a Long-Distance Move?
We’ve talked about the volume and distance of your move being the major players when you’re trying to figure out your final price, but there’s a lot of additional fees and extras that may be added on top. Aside from miles and cubic feet, there’s also…
- Access fees: Think of any obstacles between your front door and the truck. Long hallways, extra flights of stairs, elevators… the list goes on, and for each of these challenges, you can expect an extra fee.
- Packing fees: Packing is an optional service – but when you think about how time consuming and annoying packing can be, it’s also an essential service. It may come at an extra price, but you’ll save big on mental health.
- Shuttles: Some places don’t allow movers to park gigantic semi trucks right downtown. In these cases, your movers will have to use a smaller truck (a shuttle) to ferry your stuff from your place to the main moving truck. Thank the city.
- Insurance: It’s rare, but accidents happen. The federally-mandated minimum coverage for moving insurance is $0.60 per pound. If you want to get more than $2.40 for that broken laptop, you’ll have to shell out extra for full-value coverage.
- Time of year: June through August has historically been the busiest time period for moving. We’re starting to see it bleed over into May and September, though. Busy movers means higher demand, and higher demand means pricier moves.
What is the cheapest option for moving long distances?
The cheapest option for your long distance move is always going to be DIY. But once you factor in the price of gas (especially in SoCal), lodging, and food, that DIY misadventure may not be as cheap as you’d hoped. And if you’re taking time off work to do the packing, loading, and hauling? Those missed paychecks are going to sting.
We’re not saying this just because we’re a moving company. DIY moving may be cheaper at first glance, but sometimes it’s just more efficient to call the pros. You’ll save on stress, too.
What is considered long distance for a moving company?
If you’re moving over 100 miles or across state lines, that counts as a long distance move. Even if the state line is like… 2 miles away. Long distance movers need to be federally certified for interstate travel, so make sure you look for a department of transportation (DOT) number and a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) number when you’re shopping around.
How can I save money on a long distance move?
Aside from a stressful DIY experience, there are other ways to save on your long distance move – even if you’re paying for a moving company to handle the hard stuff.
We always recommend downsizing before you shop around for a quote. Get rid of all your old and unwanted items, and you’ll have less volume to transport.
It’s also a great idea to schedule your move for the middle of the week, the middle of the month, and far away from any holidays or vacations.
What areas do you cover besides San Diego?
Out of State Moving Companies is always expanding. Aside from sunny San Diego, we also handle moves in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the rest of the country for that matter.
Look for us in Miami, Gainesville, Las Vegas, and more. We want to make stress-free moving easier for everyone, and that means growing a little more every day.
How far in advance should I hire movers in San Diego?
It’s a good idea to book your move two or three months in advance. Not weeks – months. It takes a long time to pack and prepare, and you’ll want all that extra time to transfer your utilities, your mail, and more.
A two or three month window will really reduce the time crunch, and it’ll give you plenty of time to tell your friends and family where you’re headed (assuming you want them to know).
An added bonus? Moving companies will usually throw in a pretty hefty discount for your flexibility. It’s always smarter to plan in advance.
How long does a long distance move take?
A long distance move will take anywhere from 1 – 21 days. Much like the price of your move, the overall duration depends on the amount of stuff you’re carrying, and the distance it all has to travel. Plus, under federal law, your driver can’t clock more than 400 miles of interstate travel per day.
Most people assume that a small amount of stuff will get shipped faster. Unfortunately, that’s not usually the case. For better efficiency, moving companies bundle small moves together in the same truck (while keeping everything securely separated, of course).
This means no wasted space, but more time waiting for drop offs and deliveries along the way.
