How Much Does it Cost to Hire Long Distance Movers in Tampa?

Expect to pay between $2,500 and $13,000 to book long-distance movers in Tampa – in rare cases, a little more or a little less. If you’re in it for the long haul, your price largely depends on how much you’re transporting, and how far you’re traveling.

In the moving industry, long-distance movers charge based on miles and pounds (although some companies may prefer using miles and cubic feet). This means if you’re just moving a studio from Tampa to Miami, you’ll be paying a lot less than if you were to move from Tampa to Seattle.

There are plenty of add-ons and options that’ll make your move easier, but they tend to cost a little extra on top of your estimate. These add-ons aside, your distance and dimensions are the biggest factors behind your cost. Take a look at this table to get a better idea of how much you’ll pay:

Distance1 Bedroom2 – 3 Bedroom4 – 5 Bedroom
100 miles$1,200 – $2,500$2,500 – $4,000$4,000 – $6,500
250 miles$1,500 – $3,000$3,000 – $5,000$5,000 – $7,500
1000 miles+$2,000 – $4,500$4,500 – $7,000$7,000 – $10,000
2500 miles+$3,000 – $6,500$6,500 – $9,500$9,500 – $13,000

Tampa Long Distance Moving FAQs

As we’ve mentioned before, the biggest factors behind your moving price are the size and distance. But, there are still some other add-ons that can affect how much you end up paying:

  • Storage: There’s a chance you won’t be able to unpack everything in time, and there’s a chance that all your belongings won’t fit in your new place. Rent a storage unit for a monthly fee, and you can keep it sheltered until you find a solution.
  • Packing: Boxes, bubble wrap, tape, and all the trips to Home Depot when you keep running out. Sound fun? We didn’t think so. Throw in a couple hundred (or a couple thousand if you’ve got a McMansion), and your movers will do the packing for you.
  • Insurance: In case of accidents, your movers can reimburse you for any lost or damaged items. Unfortunately, basic coverage is only good for $0.60 per pound of damaged goods. Want to get more than $2.40 for that laptop? Pay for full value coverage.
  • Access fees: It’s not always a straight shot to the front door. Your movers may have to deal with gates, elevators, staircases, long hallways, or extra-long driveways. The extra challenge is going to net you an extra fee.
  • Shuttles: When cities don’t let movers park semi trucks on their tiny little streets, the only option is to park at the edge of town, and use a smaller shuttle truck to finish the job. Not cheap, not convenient, but unfortunately out of our hands. Write your city council!
If you really want to move on the cheap, you’ll have to rent a moving truck and DIY the whole adventure. You’ll have to really watch out for your extra expenses if you want to keep those savings, though! Plan out your route for maximum fuel efficiency, and book those cheap hotels as early as possible.
There are a few techniques you can use to save money, but our personal favorite is downsizing. Get rid of all the stuff you don’t need or don’t want anymore before you shop for a quote. After all, if you don’t want to take it with you, you shouldn’t pay money to have it moved. Aside from downsizing, it’s a good idea to book far in advance, and to avoid peak moving season if possible. Everyone wants to move during summer. That’s why moves are so expensive between June and August. Try to move mid-week, mid-month, far away from holidays.
Aside from Tampa, Out of State Moving Companies is proud to offer our services in California, Nevada, Washington, and anywhere in between. We’re always growing and adding new cities to our roster, so check back in and see where we’re going next!

We make moving easy, and that extends to moving quotes, too! All you have to do is share a bit of info about your move, and we’ll send you a completely custom moving quote based on your inventory of items and the distance you have to travel.

Try to book your long-distance movers 2 to 3 months in advance. It sounds like a huge window, but time really flies as soon as you’ve saved the date.

Remember, you’ll have to transfer utilities, forward your mail, say your goodbyes, and (if you’re DIYing it) pack up all of your stuff. Give yourself some extra time to ease the stress.

A long-distance move generally takes between 1 and 21 days. Movers can’t clock more than 400 miles of interstate travel per day, but aside from federal regulations, you also need to think about bundling.

When a move isn’t big enough to fill an entire trailer (think, a studio or 1-bedroom apartment) your movers won’t send that half-empty truck until they’ve got other moves to fill up that empty space.

When they bundle multiple moves in the same moving truck, they’re getting the most out of all that gas they’re using anyway. This ends up saving you money (and they’ll keep everything safe and separated back there), but it does mean extra delays.
